Life Isn’t A Dress Rehearsal

Have you ever felt like you’ve hit the wall when it comes to reaching your goal or vision?

By that I mean, you know what you want and you’ve
gone out and purchased what you need to get there.  You’ve hired help, maybe brought in a professional to help you in the areas you are uncertain about, and then something stops you?

It suddenly starts to feel HARD and you find yourself pushing to get things done and forcing action instead of being inspired to take action. Things start to go wrong and you find yourself rationalizing your way out of the thing you’ve committed to OR you talk yourself OUT of the thing you want to do?

This happens all the time, it’s the biggest thing that gets in the way of your happiness, joy and most importantly you’re FREEDOM – financial and emotional.

I remember when someone told me this was very predictable when an Entrepreneur is building their business, making changes to their existing business or adding a revenue stream onto what they are currently offering!!
We’ve all heard of it and most have experienced this in one way or another.  Having gone through it myself and after working with hundreds of people, I’ve seen it happen over and over.  It’s called SELF-SABOTAGE!! And here is how it generally works….

You have a dream – a vision of a business you really
want. A way to help others and you are EXCITED
about it. You get a real glimpse of what’s possible.

You’ve identified what you want to do; who your ideal client is; what their challenges are and the results or benefits you can provide to solve their problem or need. You feel ready!!

Here’s what often comes next…..

You go out and start marketing or talking about your business, basically you
become VISIBLE to others and are now open for ‘feedback’ from your colleagues, peers, family and friends.

Almost immediately after taking visible action toward your goal…. Some kind of
obstacle will show up. It might be a feeling of overwhelm, or a personal
challenge. Maybe you are operating in the red and you start focusing on the lack of money your business is generating right now. Once fear shows up, the urge to self-sabotage becomes great, BECAUSE…we are looking for relief from the fear we are feeling. AND we start spending time thinking about WHY this won’t work instead of WHY it WILL WORK.

The point is this – the bigger the goal/vision, the bigger the obstacle/fear that
often threatens to stop us! And here is what’s really interesting about FEAR,
something will show up outside of yourself that will validate your fear – 100% of
the time. It is certain, and it is guaranteed. It will feel VERY uncomfortable.
The questions I ask my clients when I sense this happening is:

  • Have you ever felt like this before?
  • What did you do when you felt like this?
  • Did you step into the fear, identify it and move forward?
  • Did you find yourself finding 100 different distractions so you couldn’t move forward?

Basically, I want to know if this is a PATTERN. Because if it is, the next question I ask is:


We all know what it’s like to sit in fear; worry about the future; feel
overwhelmed; have sleepless nights and basically want to pull the covers over our heads…. BEEN THERE – DONE IT!

I don’t know about you, but I am not remotely interested in re-living my past
experiences. I am very interested in creating new experiences, new successes and creating something profound for myself and my clients.

So, if you find yourself in this old pattern and are ready to step into something
new, here are a few tips that may help you shift your energy, thoughts and

  1. Don’t deny that you are feeling fearful. Acknowledge that something is going on and it doesn’t feel good.
  2. ​Ask yourself if there is any truth in the thoughts you are having about the fear you are feeling? In other words, is there any proof that the scary future you are thinking about is actually going to happen?
  3. Re-visit your goal/vision and try to imagine what your life will feel like when you actually achieve this. Allow that excitement to re-surface.
  4. If you cannot achieve #3, then ask for help from an expert. Someone who will validate your feelings AND help you release the resistance to moving forward.
  5. Keep your thoughts on what you want.
  6. Meditate.
  7. Take positive and inspired action.

This is not a dress rehearsal, this is it, and so anything holding you back from experiencing a life of joy is worth working through!! Step into it, don’t back away and watch your business and your life change.
